Can't wait for the Russell and Lenora Q&A video's later this week on the BBC Being Human site, though!
Dodo
Anyway, I found that fascinating lil quiz up there at the bottom of the page. Hehe! I'm pretty much summed up there. Heeeeee! Scarily accurate. lol
Anyways, onto other subjects. Survivors! I'm just loving the series - its keeping the ideas from the original series and expertly reworking them to fit more modern ways of doing things, we're seeing things in a 2000's way instead of the 1970's kind of thinking. Episode four comes next and I can't wait to see how they're going to meld two or more episodes this time as they have in the second and third ones.
At the minute, I'm rewatching "Trial and Retribution: Sins Of The Father", just to refresh my memory before writing the review for the site. But, if anyone has any honest reviews you'd like to submit, for ANY Andrew-Lee Potts roles, please just send them my way, folks.

Ohhh... how long I've been waiting for this show?! I'm a fan of the original 1970's series though, for the record, I AM slightly too young to have seen it first hand. Dad and I were looking through one of those magazine which sell DVD's of old TV shows and comedy stars and he pointed out Survivors. He told me what it was about and I wanted it, so we pooled our resources and bought the first and second series' on DVd between us. We sat down and watched an episode a night every weekend and I thought the series was fantastic. When it got to the second series, however, the plotlines slowed down and became boring and repetitive, and we both lost interest long before the end of the series. As I recall, actually, we never finished the second series off. :S
Anyway, when I heard they were remaking it, I was excited but slightly dubious, sincerely hoping they'd do the original justice. Then, I heard that Adrian Hodges was wholly responsible for the rewrite. I couldn't believe it! Yes, one of the geniuses... genuis'... genii... or whatever the plural of genius is, behind Primeval, had laid his golden touch on Survivors! I felt sure it was in safe hands with his talent behind things. And then, to read on the TV guide and online that not only is the lovely Andrew Tiernan going to appear (episodes 3, 4, and 6 he has reliably informed us on Facebook) but my dear Francis Magee, an actor I discovered thanks to my interest in Pottsy and his role in Stranded, and a man who I now hold in equally as high a regard as him. For those who know my obsessions, you know thats a high place indeed! *lol*
So, I settled down with my brew of coffee and great expectations... and boy, was I not disappointed! So I say PAH to those who had the show down as being utter c**p from the outset - everyone's entitled to an opinion but perhaps wait until you've actually seen it next time, eh? And now into my review of episode one!
It wasn't as dull as the reviewers made out, and actually offered up some surprising little twists not seen 33 years ago in the original. I found it quite enjoyable, actually. I was afraid that, because I'd been so much looking forward to Survivors, it'd end up being a let down. The sets were great, the acting was naturalistic - at least I didn't notice any hamminess among the assemblage, and the small details you wouldn't consider straight away concerning how we live and such are subtly addressed in the main. Well, barring the thing about mobile phones - that gets harped on about a bit. :P
Many of the character names were the same so, if Adrian has used the original plotlines, I'm quite sure I know what some of the characters are likely to do. However, there are one or two new people, too, and the situations, as is to be expected, are in some cases a bit different to the original... but not as different as it might first appear. The location has changed. 1975's Survivors mostly hearkened from London, 2008's are mainly from Manchester.
( Abby Grant (spoilers) )
( Greg Preston spoilers )
( Tom Price (spoilers) )
There are a couple of noticable changes, in that as the media was in those days, the cast was mainly, if not completely, white. Reflecting the change in society over the intervening 33 years, there is now a wide range of ethnic characters, each of whom bring something a bit different to the mix.
As an homage and a remake, I think its done pretty good things so far - it IS sticking closely to the original with only slight changes so my only criticism might be that to fans it might become a retread and fall into the same pitfalls as the original did in its second series. Though under the guiding hands of directors John Alexander, Jamie Payne and Andrew Gunn, with the writing skill of Adrian Hodges, I'm sure they can skirt those thorny issues. :D I want to be objective, but I enjoyed it so why not tell everyone, eh?! *lol*
( PFFFT to dissenters. )
*lmao* On a different note, I just checked the IMDb message board for the new version and man there's LOADS of new threads! *lol*

Anywho, I for one can't wait for the next episode, Tuesday, 9pm, BBC1!

Some of you may already know from my Facebook status that I'm officially a participant in this year's National Novel Writing Month (the NaNoWriMo of the title) - its my first year in and the rules are fairly simple. The object is to write a 50,000 word novel from beginning to end in one month (November 1st-30th). Easy!!! *cough oh really? cough* The prize, as I understand it, is to have the finished story published, obviously after being given some time in December to edit and polish it up. November, as they state, is simple for the writing, getting the ideas down even if they don't quite make sense at the time.
Well, Dodochicky1978 is off and running - on my profile, theres a rough outline and a sneak preview of the beginning of the story for anyone who might like to have a nosey. See if you identify with either of the first two two characters first put forward. :P
My total wordcount to date is 5, 782 words out of the 50,000 required. No sweat, eh? *begins to sweat* I've worked it out that by the end of week one (Friday) I'll have to have written just under 12000 words. *bites lip* Things are looking a tad more difficult, there, eh? But, I have one thing going for me. I'm using a story I already have pretty much planned out in my mind and I'm filling it in as I go along. Its called "Twin Tails" and I dunno if the title gives away anything or not so I'd love to hear your ideas. :D
Though I'd like to place somewhere high up in the running but I'm not under any illusions that though I know I'm a passable writer but I may not complete the task - four days out of every eight, I'm unlikely to get the chance to write enough to keep on target, which means totally hammering the writing on my four off. But its a damned good incentive to get a story finished, wouldn't you say? Plus I am going to TRY to hit the quota.
Plus, if there are any out there who fancy a challenge, I'm a fairly decent cheerleader to to help you along the way. :D
Wish me luck, chaps and chapettes!
;)

I confess to a little bit of trepidation when I started this day off. I knew I was going to be wandering alone (and that made me instantly lonely for Alyse, Andi, Tracy and John) and coupling that with a not-so-good nights sleep, I was not in a 100% Expo frame of mind...
That all changed when I got to the East India DLR station at 9:30am to find people in costumes every bit as detailed and wonderful as those of the day before and their obvious excitement just got to me. :D By the time I was in the queue for the doors (considerably shorter than Saturday's I must admit) I'd seen more anime characters, most of whom I still don't know but had come to recognise by sight all the same, than I can count. We got inside as quickly as the day before so I was in and spending by 10:15am. *lmao*
I first went to the information desk and asked if tickets were needed for the panels for the day (namely, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica and A.N. Other which has slipped my mind right now). I was informed that they weren't necessary and I was relieved at that!
Next, I made a beeline for the place where the Primeval signing had been the day before - it stood empty but I was grinning like a fool anyway at the memory. Then, as was my plan for the day, I set about trying to root out gifts for all the people back home. With, ahem, more money than I have available spent on gifts for myself and others, I set about getting my own tally of free hugs. *lmao* I have no clue what the count was but I was approaching anyone and everyone with a "free hugs" sign. A really, really nice lady was wandering 'round in a full furry suit, some kind of supercute blue animal, and for the first time in the entire convention so far, she gave a really good, strong hug. I thanked her for it. From there I wandered in and out of the venue, so I'm covered in friggin' handstamps again! I haven't managed to wash off the first ones yet! *lmao* At least the Sunday ones were pretty butterflies! And how girly does THAT sound?! Not a very good Goth, am I? *grinz* I even went and chatted to a security guard and found him to be as thrilled with the costumery around us as I was - he quizzed me about the Expo because he was security for a different event and we just chatted in general for a while before I went on my way.
I went back into the venue for the 'nth' time and I heard random cheering from the main stage where all the panels had been yesterday. ( The Prince Caspian Panel )
( The Heroes Panel )
( Free hugz galore! )
I spotted Warwick Davis and a few others at an autograph signing but, damnit, I failed to summon the courage to approach him and apologise for yesterday's fluffing of an opportunity to speak. Still, I got some more photos. :P Bored, I made my way around, videoing and hugging and getting tireder by the minute. I learned I was too late to get tickets for the CosPlay Masquerade, yet again. At 3pm I almost left and went back to the hotel. I went down to the entrance and decided that I'd paid to stay both days, so i'd stay both days. i went back in and was taught the game "Warcraft" at one of the stands near the main stage - I tried my hardest to get it, but I just didn't. Still, i got a free figure out of it, an advance release of a new creature to play as. Not that I will be doing, methinks.
( Free hugz and lovely new friends. )

And thus ended my day... my entire weekend away.

Saturday 25th October 2008 (part two)
A quick amendment, did I mention the card? Nope, I think I forgot about that... I brought along a birthday card for Andrew for all the assembled
And on with the entry!
Soo, as I left off yesterday, the Primeval panel had just finished entertaining and enlightening us and we were leaving the main stage area to join the already humungous queue for the Primeval autograph signing on the other side of the hall. The only way to be allowed to have an autograph signed if you had a black flower handstamp (gained on exitting the Primeval panel) and the ticket used to get into the panel in the first place.
Sorry
Outside we finally managed to meet up with
We shuffled through the queue, which seemed interminable while trying to get Alyse's attention, but she was a bit too far ahead of us. And then... then we were at the front. I was bouncing again! The security lady at the head of the queue said we were allowed 2 items each to be signed, checked our handstamps and tickets then made sure that we had only Primeval items for signing. I had two books for signing and Andi had one cool group of three framed pictures, two of Abby and one, in the centre, of her and Connor. :D Andi got one of the cool promotional pictures the security lady was handing out - the new one picture with the large pristichampus rearing up behind our intrepid team. I boldly asked that if there were any of the blank promo pics left at the end of the signing, could I have one - she said she'd see but I never actually got one so they either all got given out/signed OR she forgot. Or never intended to let me have one. >.<
( Adrian Hodges! )
( Hannah Spearritt! )
( Andrew-Lee Potts )
( Lucy Brown! )
( Tim Haines! )
Andi was right behind me getting signs and Justtracy and hutchiebear were waiting for us both as we resurfaced from the "Primeval-zone". Yes, I was bouncing again with pent up excitement, this time. Honest, the gang will confirm that. *lmao* We resolved to hang around, looking damned obvious as the trailing end of the queue of fans got their autographs. Between us, we were firing off sneaky pictures and videos of the cast and writers as they were signing. I peeped around the corner with my camera one time and Lucy, bless her cotton socks, was just looking around and gave me a lovely, sweet little smile and a wave for the camera. I took my piccie then grinned cheekily, nodded and bobbed back out of sight before laughing. Damn me! I giggle when I get caught out! *lmao* ( Lucy giving me a sweet little wave - she's so COOL! )
( Hmm, its a mystery... )
( Yayness! )
We obviously has no time to experience the Cosplay Masquerade (where all those people in their wonderful costumes get to show themselves off and have a good ol' party, by the sounds) since tickets were needed and if we'd gone to that, we'd never have gotten our pictures... small price to pay, methinks, for this...
( OMGOMGOMG ) !
(L-R, andthedescent, ME, Hannah, Andrew, justtracy) We make an awesome gang, don't we? *lmao* :P ;)
Well... after that, there was nothing to do so we by now quite weary travellers went our separate ways and that really saddened me. I knew none of you guys would be going the next day and that i'm not going to get together with you all again for quite some time. But rest assured, I'll try to make a trip down to London to visit you guys again as soon as I can! I absolutely adored spending time with you all!

The Expo... what can I say. Its the best £350 I've spent in years! Bear with me, the end of day one is worth the wait, as you will have already heard in
Saturday 25th October 2008
I got there at 8:50am and already there were hundreds of people there, most were in costume and what fantastic costumes they were! the prepaid Early entry ticket queue stretched almost half the length of the building then looped back on itself and I joined when it was about halfway back down. If that makes sense? I was standing in front a really nice lady who was waiting for friends. All credit to the Expo folks, when that queue started moving, we got inside in no time flat. I was inside for about 9:10-9:15 so thats not bad.
So there I am, alone in a strange, huge confusing place surrounded by people dressed as all kinds of movie and anime characters... there are stalls selling everything from Japanese sweets to drawing supplies and from swords to keyrings! It was somewhat overwhelming for a first time Expo-er, so should that be Expo-teer?, like me. :D
After finally meeting up with some members of
( Meeting Warwick Davis )
Damn, that pic is still sideways?!
( R-L Warwick Davis, A friend of his, Me )
I couldn't get between the two of the men either, whch didn't help matters. Anyway, he sweetly signed a picture for me and when I got myself together and I went on my way. Fortunately, the Primeval queue hadn't even started going in when I got there at ten past 3. I spotted and greeted Alyse and her happy band of merry folk at the front of the queue and then located Andi. We chatted to a couple of mad-keen Andrew and Primeval fans in front of us and finally were let in to sit down. I was upset a little to find half the seats standing empty. Yet we had been assured that all the Primeval tickets were given out. So where were these so-called fans?
(Ahem, If you're not into Primeval or its stellar cast and writers, dear journal reader, don't bother with the next 300,000 words or so! *lmao*)
( Primeval Panel, part one )
( Account of spoiler/preview clip (Part 1) ) ( Primeval Panel, part two ) ( A sneak preview clip part 2 ) which is more or less where the clip ended, to a hearty round of applasuse from we assembled masses.
There was a little more filler chatter and the emcee thanked the panel for us and they left the stage to a big round of applause from us...
To Be Continued (when this tired lil Dodo gets home tomorrow - I need some sleep because i've got 7 hours worth of travelling to do to get home. Bleugh!)
I hope this is an enjoyable entry, guys! more to come soon!

Oh, oh, in other news! I received the new Primeval book, "The Lost Island" by Paul Kearney!! It came through Amazon and its one of the few times they've not let me down on what I ordered. Wheee! Its going to be essential reading on the bus down to London, methinks. *lol* The write up on the back is as follows...
" Anomalies are starting to appear, doorways in time to worlds we can barely imagine. The anomalies are conclusive proof that the past exists in a fourth dimension as real and solid as those we already know. Our job is to predict and contain them.
A trawler is torn to pieces by an enormous sea monster off the irish coast. Meanwhile, Connor's anomaly detector goes off the charts: half a dozen rifts in time have appeared, all on one deserted - yet politically contentious - island...
While Lester struggles to hold onto his career as the story edges ever closer to the front page, Cutter and the team battle through a deadly storm to reach the island, only to find themselves fighting to survive amidst the terrifying creatures roaming the harsh landscape... "
Sounds good, eh? The bit in italics is, as you probably already know, a quote from Cutter from series one.
And, in the back of the book, in amongst a myriad of blank pages, are the blurbs for the other two books. No release dates yet for these, but I've got them already on order.
EXTINCTION EVENT by Dan Abnett (This one features Abby on the cover.)
Extinction Event has a release date of 23rd Jan 2009, according to Amazon.
" An Entelodon ( this is the handsome chappie ) goes on the rampage down Oxford Street causing untold damage and loss of life, and Cutter decides a new approach to tackling the anomalies is needed. When a mysterious Russian scientist arrives at the ARC, Cutter thinks he might have found the answer...
Kidnapped and smuggled into Siberia, Cutter, Abby and Connor are faced with an anomaly disaster on an epic scale... While Lester and Jenny must work together to try to track them down. "
FIRE AND WATER by Simon Guerrier (This one features Connor on the cover - YAY!)
Fire and Water has a tenuous release date of 27th Feb 2009, according to Amazon.
" At a safari park in South Africa, rangers are inexplicably disappearing and strange creatures have been battling with lions and rhinos. As the team investigates they are drawn itno a dark conspiracy which could have terrible consequences...
Back in London, Connor and Abby have been left to cope on their own. As torrential rain pours down over the city, an enormous anomaly opens up in East London... "
I also got the "Monster Wipe-Out Games" book - of course, its aimed at kids, but its a good thing to add to my rather extensive collection of Primeval memorabilia. :P Its very basic, with the games being simple in rules and layout. As I said, its very obviously for the younger end of the fanscale, with wipe-clean pages which I'm yet to test out the durability of. *lol*

All I need to do now is to figure out what to pack, making sure I pack light of course, and thats that. :D Must take Katie and Tom, the travelling teddies, though. :P For those of you with Facebook, these are their adventures to date, found at "Adventures In Travel With Tatty and Temple".

And now I'm tearing up... I'm watching "Blackadder's Most Cunning Moments" on G.O.L.D. (I'm crying now, so its a bit hard ot type, sorry) - and they've just gotten to the ( number one Most Cunning Moment )
And tonight I settled down and enjoyed one of my favourite films, Dog Soldiers, my second favourite werewolf movie ever! For those who've never seen it, Dog Soldiers is a British made, American funded werewolf film which is just superb! ( My review of Dog Soldiers; waffle, waffle waffle! *lol* )

On Tuesday (7th October) I received an email through my Stranded fansite from a man named Geoff Morris - and as it turns out, he was an extra on Stranded, playing one of the sailors aboard the Resolution. He apparently lives in Thailand with his wife and children and has done so for a decade or so - and aside from the absolutely wonderful behind the scenes pictures of himself in various parts of the set (mostly his pictures are split between the sets of the Resolution ship and that of the Robinson family treehouse) and there are some fascinating sneak peeks into the movie making process.
And rather poignantly, well for me at least, he also has some pictures of the treehouse set, which was left behind after production finished, a year or so afterwards, looking in a slightly sorry state as the jungle began to reclaim the land and the building therein. Later, the set itself was completely destroyed by the 2006 Boxing Day tsunami, so those images might be the very last ones of the intricate treehouse set. I feel so proud and privileged that Geoff trusts me to showcase these properly, so I'm in the prcess of creating a page especially for them.
Like with many of the show's cast, it seems to be a one-off acting role, and sadly he had a couple of other solo scenes which were cut from the final production (and how much would this little dodo like to get hold of THOSE!) - but he cut a dashing figure in his naval uniform! He was featured in the opening pirate battle scene in Part 2 and again toward the end. Naturally, I've been trawling the DVD and screencapping every section in which I can find Geoff. I'm just tickled pink, not literally, by his anecdotes from his time there (one of which happily concerns his short-lived onscreen fight with Andrew-Lee Potts) , which I'll be sharing on the site soon. :D
If you get to read this, Geoff, thankyou so very much! You made my week, hunny!

My mate, her sister and her mum (who is currently suffering with a nasty cold, poor lamb) looked so much happier than I've seen them in such a long time. It sounds horrible to say it but with her dad out of the picture, everyone was just so much more relaxed and the atmosphere in the house was a joy! Plus, I got to meet her sister's fiance for the first time. He seems to be such a lovely guy, funny and smart! We all laughed, talked about anything and everything, enjoyed some music, looked at the pictures of the wedding and generally had a really good time. :D

I'm as much to blame as anyone else in the house. We all just have to pick them up if we see one just lying around in the street with no-one around or indeed at carboot sales or flea markets where there are often lonely little teddies sitting there looking all forlorn.... ahem. They're usually bedraggled, sorry little beasts in desperate need of TLC and, in many cases, more than a little restuffing and stitching.
Only yesterday morning I found a tiny little teddy all dripping and muddy from the rain, just lying in the gutter and I had to rescue him. Then today Dad found a 6-inch pink bear with cupid-pierced lover hearts on her chest abandoned beside a bin. He brought her home and mum gently cleaned the dirt from both of their fur coats with washing powder. Now, they are hung out on the washing line to dry and now it looks not only like a refuge for abandoned teddies, but its beginning to look like a gallery of soggy bears.
( Hung for their crimes? Hehe. )

Thanks to some wonderful friends on the andrewleepotts group here on LJ, some equally dear friends on the Unofficial Primeval Forum and the very accommodating proprietress of the Official Douglas Henshall website, I've received a wealth of information I can use toward one of the new websites I'm building. Underestimated Talent will be a fansite for the acting siblings, Andrew-Lee and Sarah-Jane Potts. I've has so many squee moments lately I'm all squee'd out, so to speak (Oh Lord, how bad does that sound?! *lol*)
And then, this morning, I had another squee moment form a completely unexpected direction!
I run a fansite promoting and generally enjoying the works of a Canadian actor named Joris Jarsky. He's most well known from the cult TV series Vampire High in which he played a rogueishly (sp?) attractive and hilarious vampire named Marty Strickland. His biggest movie role to date was opposite the lovely Ryan Reynolds, the feisty Kristin Booth and the talented David Suchet in Foolproof. Anywho, stop being geeky, Dodo!
This morning, out of the blue, I found an email from a Tim Jarsky, brother of the lovely Joris, offering me some information on some new "diary" entries in a Canadian newspaper this week!! I was so thrilled since information has been thin on the ground for the past year and a half! I was laughing out loud reading them - hes naturally funny and has a great way with words. :D Hyoooge thanks to my new friend Tim for this!
Added to the fact that I'm hoping for some more information for the Sunday League football site I run - as in todays score and lists of who they have signed up, I'm going to be busy, eh?
*sighs* Anyway, I'm a happy little Dodochicky! so much information to process, so little time!
